Water and socks, water and socks!” This is the survival kit after a restless night, when the next morning, after 3 hours of sleep, you plan on rocking the slopes. And I do not lie to you, it’s tested and it works, and for that I can only say Thank you, Bobo!
So on our second Austrian morning, more sleepy than awake, we went straight to serious business, because that was our plan from the very start!

Solden, the famous hotspot of the Alps, located in the lower part of the Ötztal Valley, is one of the most popular areas along the winter sports enthusiasts, and the figures can explain why: 150 km of landscaped slopes, 33 modern climbing facilities, 3 peaks over 3000 meters interconnected by installations, snow at least 6 months a year, 69 blue slopes, 51 red ones, and many other black ones. This is wow! Especially for a beginner like me, who can barely control the board and feels lucky for every single kilometer down the slope.

The good part here in # auskia is that dreams do come true, and this holiday I dreamt about going beyond my limits and becoming a real snowboarder. And because the first step to become a pro is to at least look like a pro, the first stop was at Ski Brugger , the rental center. With 4 locations in Solden, the center offers the slightest equipment (from the perspective of an unfamiliar, that means looking good and feeling comfortable) at some decent prices (starting from 17 euros a day and the price decreases depending on the number of days – Still keep in mind, Intersport has a 70% discount and you can make a better deal).

After half an hour, here we are, fully equipped and ready for some fun, sitting in line, waiting for the cable. A queue so big that I had the impression that there was an endless offer at the dry cooker, or something was given for free. But no, the ski pass for a day is somewhere at 50 euros (the full price list here ) and I guarantee you that it’s worth every penny. We have not waited too long, because everything is civilized and extremely well organized (a big plus, especially as this winter we have experienced the minus of the Romanian services too).

At the top, at an altitude of over 2000 m, we were welcomed by our instructors . Believe me, nothing is impossible, not even snowboarding, but this monitor thing seems vital to me. I do not know what we’ve done without Sabrina, especially those without any experience. And it is not big deal, but it’s important to have someone with a lot of patience by your side, to motivate you. Because the first day on the board is absolutely annoying. It wasn’t really fun to fall 10 times in 10 meters and climb as many times as possible with the board in our back, but with some perseverance, until the end of the day, we managed to climb the chairlift and take a few laps. This was when our falls started to look more like snowboarding and some wide smiles appeared on our faces.

Were those smiles due to Sabrina, Bobo and George’s help, or to the recharging meal at Wirtshaus Giggijoch ?

The important thing is that we have finished the day without any unhappy events, but with a wine and a delicious beef steak at La Tavola and a small dance at Fire & Ice, one of the apres-ski pubs in the area. And when I say small, that’s exactly how it was. We left the pub, like some hurried Cinderellas, right before midnight, because no one was sure the water and socks trick could work for two days in a row.

Noapte buna #auskia! Dimineata numaram vanataile 😀
